TITLE Sablon Romania

MEDIUM Acrylic Paint on the windows at The CAMP

ARTIST STATEMENT I am basing my work on my journey in Romania, taking me to the post-communist Eastern Europe, and within me taking these contrasts back to London. Twenty:Twelve is both the year of the Olympics in London, the second year in the new decade, and the 5th year of Romania being part of the EU. I am considering all these topics, as well as the many strong contrasts between a life in the culture of London and in Romania, blended in a presentation of patterns inspired by the Romanian peasant traditions. Bringing up issues of tourism, lack of knowledge, the prioritising of governmental resources - Olympics or growth?

How do we interpret a pattern? - as decoration, as a journey from stitch to stitch, as a language between generations, as a controlled development, as
What does this do for the decorative element of the surroundings in a social venue? Is it possible to communicate across cultures and techniques?
Displayed on the window it will be seen from both the outside and the inside of the venue, thus becoming a part of the day-/ and night - life of the venue.
Gently forcing the audience to participate in the work, by interconnecting the two worlds of inside and outside - in a wider sense like the pattern is the interconnection between Romania's peasant culture and the urban city life of London.
