ARTIST STATEMENT Athena, the ancient Greek goddess of creativity, knowledge and war was born from Zeus’ head when it was cleaved by Hephaestus and his smithing tools.  Athena burst forth a full grown woman clad in a complete set of battle armour.
This frame is part of an installation representing inspiration, exploring it’s origins and as a modern accolade to Athena.

In 2012 our year will graduate from University and we students will all fly off in our separate directions. Hopefully we will continue to flock together from time to time to support each other and continue our journey through life, like the birds that congregate to migrate across the continents.

TITLE Cultivate


INSTALLATION


ARTIST STATEMENT I exploit Capitalism’s material for colour and signification; transforming the disposable language of the everyday into a rich paint. ‘Cultivate’ is a patch-work-of-signifiers collectively producing a mass of colour which embodies blind consumption, death, destruction, and exploitation. I will be focusing on one colour bleeding into another. The bleeding of colour will represent the poverty and exploitation that is implicit in Capitalism’s essential profit. It has been predicted by the ancient Mayan people that 2012 will be a time for a significant shift in human consciousness. ‘Cultivate’ aims to promote an expansion of the value system; for material and labour to encompass the true debt in human and environmental costs.
