Désirée Ickerodt

TITLE Andogynous Crucible

MIXED MEDIA

SIZE Ca. 120 (h) x 50 (diameter) cm

SALE PRICE £440

ARTIST STATEMENT Désirée Ickerodt explores gender identity in her androgynous sculptures. Through sexual ambiguity in her artwork she is questioning culturally defined concepts of masculinity and femininity. She is very much interested in the Jungian interpretation of medieval alchemy as an allegory for the individuation process. Alchemy is concerned with the coniunctio oppositorum, the fusion of the opposites.

This androgynous crucible is self-contained. It can penetrate itself, fertilize itself and conceive all by itself. It is its own source of inspiration and motivation.
